I wonder why the brown seed breaks
Under the Earth, what hand awakes
The robin in its shell, and brings
Out of silence, songs and wings.
Wise men explain away the world
By the movement of water, gas and dust,
Explain how the leaves and legs uncurled
Through the dancing days of summer must
Turn to cold and rust.
But who can tell us who explain
The reason why we are born to grow
Rich in sorrow, strong through pain
Life is wiser than we know.
